2012 Phillies: Hype You Up, Throw You Down

Even I, being a "Negadelphian", was fooled by the 4 game winning streak the Phillies put up after the All-Star break. Maybe things are turning around. Maybe the good days are still alive. Maybe we WILL make the playoffs. Phillies then blow a 9th inning lead in LA, then get tossed around by SF. This is the 2012 Phillies. Season over.
It is amazing how much the 2012 Phillies get our hopes up, then backstab us. I'm not sure if it is because we have been spoiled with 5 years of success, and expect everything to be perfect. Or maybe it actually is the team's fault we get so upset. The excitement/disappointment in this season occurs in 10 game stretches, in a single game, in a specific inning, and even in a single pitch. The excitement  during the 4 game win streak was the most excitement all season. And after two games we are back to being pissed off. They gets us excited, then throw us down. In almost every game, the Phils score an early run. We get excited, "Early runs always win you a ballgame!" No, the pitching sucks or the offense mysteriously shuts down after 5 innings. They get us excited, then throw us down. Our hitting with RISP is horrific. A player will lead of the inning with a single. Next batter singles, guy after that walks. We have bases loaded with none out. What happens? We find a way to not score. "Wohoo! Bases Loaded!" No runs scored. They get us excited, then throw us down. Even in a single pitch they get us excited. Papelbon does that long, intimidating stare at Chooch to get the sign. "Oh my gosh Paps is going to blow a fastball by this guy! Look at his serious face, he means business." No that ball was ripped through the hole. They get us excited, then throw us down. I'm so sick of underachieving. Not just this year, but even in 2010 and 2011. We were sure bets to win the World Series. But no, the team let us down. Stop underachieving Phillies. It's a joke.
