Trading Victorino
Keeping Victorino for the rest of the season does not make sense. We are 13.5 games behind WAS and 9.5 games back in the Wild Card. If you are thinking the Phillies still have a chance at the 2012 playoffs, you need your brain checked. Although, I do give you credit for having Phaith. Many teams could use a speedy, great centerfielder (with the potential of hitting .290). However, Victorino is merely a rental. Trading Victorino would not get us much in return. But a couple prospects is better than nothing, as he will test the free agent market after the 2012 season. Another reason I would like for Victorino to be traded: John Mayberry Jr.'s development. Despite hitting a lowly .233 this season, I'm a JMJ fan. He has potential, we saw it last year. The guy is 6'6", good fielder, capable of being a power hitter, great throwing arm, and a fast runner. Not to mention he is a smart dude (attended Stanford). Sitting on the pine does him no good, and there is no better time to have him play than being back 13.5 games. While many of you will respond, "Trade Pierre, and put JMJ in left." To be completely honest, I'd sign Pierre to another 1 year contract for 2013. He's a career .297 hitter, and he's hitting .312 this year. Possibly D-Brown's head will be screwed on correctly next year, him and Pierre can share the LF spot, with Mayberry starting in Center Field. Call me crazy, but trading Victorino makes all the sense for the future. We would receive prospects, Mayberry develops, and D-Brown gets some playing time.
