Cole Hamels

The first news was that Ruben offered Cole an extension of 5 years/120 million. Everyone knew that Cole wouldn't sign that. Ruben was trying to get a bargain, it didn't work. As much as Cole loves Philly, the man wants to win. He doesn't want to just win a division or a wild card. He wants a ring, or multiple rings. I'm sure Cole realizes that in 3 or 4 years, the Phillies will not be a contender. Let's face it people: the Good Days will be gone in a few years. It would make much more sense for Cole, 28 years of agae, to sign with a team like the Dodgers. First off, it's SoCal. He's called Hollywood Hamels for a reason. Second, a Hamels-Kershaw "1-2 Punch" would be dominant for 6 or 7 years. While a Hallday-Lee-Hamels rotation would only last for another 3 or 4 years. That's why this new contract offer of 6 years/130 million is intriguing. If Cole doesn't sign this contract, he can't use the excuse "it wasn't the contract I was looking for." He said he wants a 6 year contract. Here it is, Cole. It's his decision on who has a better chance of winning. Personally, I'm not sure what his decision will be. But, I can picture Cole in Dodger blue, SoCal. If an extension is not signed in the next week, a blockbuster trade will occur. There isn't going to be time to say good-bye. The Breaking News will be: "Hamels doesn't sign extension, Traded to ____." Us Philly Phaithful will take two low blows in the same Phillies Text Alert. As we all wait patiently for news, prepare yourself to see Hamels in a different uniform.
